A bathroom floor is typically 2 to 3 days including cure time; a kitchen or open-plan area runs 3 to 5. Tile is walkable 24 hours after grouting.

- What's the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?
- Porcelain is denser and absorbs less water, which makes it better for floors, wet areas, and anywhere near an exterior door. Ceramic is lighter and easier to cut, and works well on walls and in lower-traffic rooms.
- How long before I can walk on new tile?
- Roughly 24 hours after grouting for light foot traffic. Heavy furniture and full use should wait 48 to 72 hours so the thin-set cures completely underneath.
- Do I need to seal my grout?
- Cement-based grout, yes — sealing keeps it from absorbing stains, and it should be redone every few years in a busy bathroom. Epoxy grout doesn't need sealing but costs more to install.
- Can you tile over an existing floor?
- Sometimes, over a sound and flat existing tile floor. More often it's better to remove it, because every layer adds height at the doorways and hides whatever's wrong with the substrate underneath.
